Meet your guide: Courtney

Hi, I’m Courtney!

As an Autistic and ADHD mum to neurodivergent twin boys, I know firsthand the joys, challenges, and complexities of raising children with big feelings, strong wills, and beautifully unique perspectives. My parenting journey has been just as transformative as my professional career, shaping how I now help families navigate tricky behaviours while fostering connection and growth.

But my story goes much deeper than that.

Growing up as a late-diagnosed neurodivergent person, I always felt “different”—as though something was broken or wrong with me, and I was just too much for the world around me. To cope, I became a chameleon, masking my true self and creating rigid systems to help me fit in and succeed.

It worked… for a while.

When I became a parent, everything rose to the surface. Suddenly, I was overwhelmed—scattered, anxious, forgetful, and unable to focus. It felt like I was losing control. At one point, I even worried I had early-onset dementia, but I was eventually diagnosed with ADHD. While this provided answers, it also brought grief: I wasn’t sure where ADHD ended and I began.

The challenges didn’t stop there. Eventually, I found myself couch-bound with chronic fatigue, which forced me to confront how burnt out my nervous system had become after years of masking, unmet needs, and ignoring my sensitivities. Everything finally clicked when I connected with a mentor who was also Autistic, leading me to seek an autism assessment and diagnosis. It was the missing puzzle piece. For the first time, I understood myself—nothing was “wrong” with me; I simply had a beautifully different brain.

This realisation set me on a path of understanding and supporting my differences. I also began to repair my nervous system, discovering how foundational it was not only to my own well-being but also to my ability to parent from a regulated, authentic place. This led me to Rebirthing Breathwork Mastery (RBM)—a parasympathic style of practice that helped me strip away layers of conditioning and reconnect with my authentic self.

At the same time, I drew on over 20 years of experience supporting neurodivergent families as a Speech Therapist and an Advanced NDIS-Registered Behaviour Support Practitioner. During this period, I noticed a glaring gap in support for families like mine. Too often, approaches to neurodivergent children and challenging behaviours weren’t practical, respectful, or tailored to everyday life. Even worse, parents were often left out of the equation entirely, despite how profoundly their well-being affects their children.

This insight inspired me to reimagine how behaviours are addressed in neurodivergent households. I trained in Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (now a Certified Provider) and delved deeper into conscious and connected parenting, exploring the science of behaviour, regulation, and trauma (realising you don’t need to have had a massive trauma to have experienced ‘trauma’). Everything I learned complemented the science behind RBM, creating a holistic framework for healing and growth.

Now, as the founder of The Behaviour Blueprint, my mission is clear:

  • To empower families to understand and support their neurodivergent children’s challenging behaviours SO they can embrace their children’s amazing brains and avoid the cycles of masking, burnout, and trauma so often experienced by neurodivergent people.
  • To help parents with their own regulation and nervous system so they can be the best version of themselves and parent from a place of authenticity and connection. Parenting neurodivergent children is tough. We must support the parent too.

Parenting neurodivergent children can be messy and overwhelming—but it can also be incredibly rewarding and transformative. My work is all about helping families create a roadmap to thrive, together.

This is how my personal journey and professional expertise have shaped The Behaviour Blueprint. I’m so glad you’re here.

Warmly,
Courtney xx

A Holistic and Neuroaffirming Approach

Our work is grounded in connection, compassion, and practicality. We’ve integrated evidence-based strategies with lived experience, drawing on:

Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (Dr Ross Greene):

Liminal Thinking (Dave Gray):

Liminal thinking techniques to help parents challenge unhelpful beliefs and discover fresh ways of approaching their children’s behaviour.

Polyvagal Theory (Dr Stephen Porges):

Informs strategies for fostering safety, connection, and self-regulation.

Interpersonal Neurobiology (Dr Daniel Siegel):

Supports healthy relationships through emotional regulation and self-awareness.

Nonviolent Communication (Marshall Rosenberg):

Encourages compassionate dialogue that addresses core needs and reduces conflict.

Trauma, ADHD, Child Development & Parenting (Dr Gabor Maté):
